About
Boutique wine cellar in Greyton, Western Cape
Delphin Wines is a boutique wine cellar situated just outside Greyton in the Western Cape, on the farm Heuningkloof, owned and run by Colin and Lynn Snyman… passionate wine lovers. The Snymans are originally from Ballito in KZN (the Dolphin Coast and hence the name Delphin Wines) where the decision was made in 2016 to leave the corporate world and to fulfil their dreams of making wine.
In 2017 they became part owners of the farm Heuningkloof, a 54 hectare farm outside the lovely hamlet of Greyton. Although Heuningkloof already had some established Chardonnay and Shiraz vines the Snymans had to build a house and cellar from scratch and then equip the cellar. The house was built and finally occupied in June 2018 and the first grapes were crushed in the cellar during the 2019 harvest.
The start-up years were extremely busy in building a house so far from suppliers but also to build and equip a new cellar. A huge hurdle was getting all the administration done to legally make and sell wine. The very first wine they made was a 2019 Chardonnay that achieved a 3 Star Platters rating and their first red wine, a SMG (Shiraz/Mourvedre/Grenache) blend, achieved a 3½ Star Platters rating. This was followed up by a barrel fermented Chardonnay in 2020 as well as a single varietal Shiraz in 2020 using grapes from their own Heuningkloof vineyard. The Delphin range was expanded with a cool climate Sauvignon Blanc in 2021.
The Delphin brand has become extremely popular at Restaurants and wine enthusiasts all over the Overberg, Gauteng and KZN due to the amazing wines and affordable pricing. Future plans are to build a dedicated wine tasting facility overlooking the Riviersonderend Mountains.
